Parents are Primary Educators for Their Children: Although your child is in school all day and being taught by professional teachers, you as the parent remain their primary educator. You know your children best and need to know that you have the right to ensure that what your children are being taught at school does not go against your beliefs. You or your children should never feel forced to participate in ideas or perspectives contradicting the values you teach at home. Let your boundaries be known early in the school year by drafting a letter to teachers and the principal or using an opt-out form. Opt-out forms can be used to ensure that your child is not exposed to information they are not ready for or ideologies that go against your morals.
